There is a learning curve in understanding which features and limits you actually need, and how add-ons interact with the main subscription. We did experience confusion around add-ons (SERP Gap Analyzer and Local Pro) and how they affected our renewal. At first, the focus in support was on internal refund policies rather than on clearing up the underlying issue. However, after escalation Semrush ultimately removed the add-ons we didn’t need and issued full account credits for the associated charges, which I appreciate. I would still like to see clearer visibility and simpler management of add-ons in the UI for business customers. > > Functionally, Semrush has done what we needed: monitor technical site health, track rankings for key terms, and give a quick read on how we compare with competitors. For several years it has been a useful, if not cheap, part of our marketing stack and has helped guide our SEO and content priorities. That said, once the issue was fully understood and escalated, Semrush support resolved it by removing the add-ons and issuing full credits for the disputed charges. Overall, the product itself is strong and we continue to get value from the core Pro features. Within two days of resubscribing, it became very clear that I did not have the time, technical background, or bandwidth to use the platform effectively. I contacted customer support almost immediately, explained that I had not used the tool, and asked for a refund. I was polite, transparent, and acknowledged that this was technically a resubscription—even though my previous use had been with help and this was my first attempt to use it independently. Despite the request being made within two days, my refund was denied because the subscription was month-to-month rather than annual. The case was escalated internally and then closed as “final,” with no reconsideration possible. While I understand companies have policies, this experience felt particularly rigid given: •The extremely short timeframe (2 days) •The lack of actual product use •The reality that Semrush is heavily marketed to small business owners, despite having a very steep learning curve This platform may work well for experienced SEO professionals or teams, but in my experience it is not beginner-friendly and not forgiving to solo business owners who quickly realize it’s not the right fit. I would strongly encourage other small business owners to fully understand the refund limitations before subscribing and to be realistic about whether they truly have the time and expertise required to use this tool effectively. > > My overall experience was that Semrush is a powerful but highly complex platform that is not well-suited for solo small business owners without dedicated SEO experience or support. I realized within two days of resubscribing that I did not have the time or technical background needed to use the tool effectively, and I contacted support immediately after recognizing this.
