It will tell you how far away, and it will even give you turn by turn instructions of how to get their on foot, bike, or car. Thanks to the support of the people who use Google Maps, you'll find users leaving helpful reviews to help you determine good businesses from bad business. Google Maps even has a program to reward good reviewers by making them Local Guides which there's ten levels of. The more pictures and reviews you leave as a Local Guide, the more points you get towards leveling up. If you see inconsistencies in a map, you can always suggest an edit to help update the map. Google Maps isn't just a simple map. It's a constantly changing/updating Maps that serves as a major convenience to the user's day to day life. I speak as a Level 8 local guide myself.
