I am a project accountant and have been a Spectrum user since 1996 when it was called ForeFront and this is the only construction software I've used. Overall I find the software easy to use. I've participated in training led by Spectrum trainers and their help and advise is invaluable. The ability to export data in different file types for analysis - exporting to excel file, data only is one I use regularly. We're also lucky to have an IT software support specialist with extensive Spectrum background who is able to provide SQL reports for those times when the standard reports and exports don't give us enough flexibility with the data for analysis.
Avantages
Most processes in Spectrum are intuitive for the user.
Inconvénients
As a long time user of Spectrum, we have a heavily customized Job Cost Report. It's becoming more difficult to accommodate our custom needs as new versions are released.

Avantages
I have used several General Ledger products in the past. I find Spectrum user friendly, easy to use and teach to others.
Inconvénients
The sales tax feature could be more robust for reporting of sales tax.

Started at this company, where the system was set up incorrectly, and not a single module could pull proper reports due to the set up. I had paid for trainings that end up without being fully trained on the modules because the set up was so wrong it did not function and the spectrum accounting processes could not function and be completed. 6 months in, and over 15,000.00 in additional trainings and partial audit of our system and still cannot complete period end process, quarter end process, or be fully trained to a properly working system. Every time I contact support, I get a response of [sensitive content hidden]. Support just directs you to the "help" files which I have already read through and they don't help, which is why I contacted them.. Tickets are also closed before a resolution.I have been trying to fix mistakes and correct the past 2 years of accounting errors and spectrum is not user friendly when errors are made that need to be corrected. You also cannot just call the past the past and move on with a fresh start for a new year, since all the reporting ties together. You have to go back and try to find every single issue (which I stated before spectrum doesn't easily let you research and find errors, especially when you are not exactly sure how the system was set up and changed multiple times in the past)
Avantages
Haven't found any pros of the system compared to other systems used.
Inconvénients
Highly dislike all accounting functions as it is not user friendly and you have to do 10x more clicks and entries just to do one simple task. Cannot find reports easily, and cannot just search a transaction, or do a quick look up for something within the entire system. You have to physically do way more work and go through every single module to find what you are looking for, then typically it has vanished and not there.. Spent 8 hours trying to find one simple discrepancy and with help from the trainer, still cannot find the error. The system is not efficient and wastes company time and money.

The implementation of the software was frustrating at best. High costs to get basic training to implement the software that should have been included in the purchase price. The Service Tech application has been nothing but aggravating. Notes are lost, labor hours are lost. It has taken months to get the app working correctly, but still issues arise which cause payroll issues. Running payroll is over complicated and the minimal training we have received was not efficient to learn it properly. Now that things are settled, and our data is all inputted to Spectrum, we are running a lot smoother. The staff that uses the software is trained to be able to use 75% of the software. There are many features we do not use due to lack of training and the features not being user friendly or at an additional cost. On the positive side, invoices are going out smoothly, posting AP, payments, and cash receipts are going well.
Avantages
The ease of invoicing. AP invoices are instantly attached to a job or work order and the labor and notes carry over from the Service Tech App. It's nice to have all the charges already ready to be reviewed and invoiced. We do appreciate the real-time availability of the data. We can leave one site map open with data already entered and then we can open a new site map to add or change information. This allows us to not have to delete and start over on the original site map. We like the ability to be able to attach documents.
Inconvénients

Access to the work order/reports/labor report is terrible. Once the data is pulled to payroll it is not possible to pull the technician's time. Some functionality has really improved over the years yet some has remained stagnant. We have 2 sisters companies in the construction business and 1 sister company that is a steel pipe distributor. Making construction software work for a steel pipe business has been a challenge. We have made it work, but would like to see more focus on OP and IC modules. The GL module needs some critical improvements, too.
Avantages
All one package makes workflow easier. We could get this from any number of alternate software providers. What we like about Spectrum is the depth of it's functionality/capabilities.
Inconvénients
Some of the modules are very antiquated and need serious updates.

Avantages
There are several different features in Spectrum that all work well together that make it a great solution. Being able to track all project financials in one place and having such versatile budget breakdowns are some of my favorite features.
Inconvénients
I'd like to add that after a long arduous process you can become pretty good at sourcing all the information you need out of this app as well. It's still not as user friendly as it could be at least for non- accounting personnel. Maybe development of some more user-friendly ways to access information for the lay person would make this more powerful for day-to-day use.

Avantages
I like that it is robust and has a lot of functionality if you know how to use it.
Inconvénients
It is clunky to use and not very intuitive. Spectrum and Team do not flow well together. Running reports to get the data you need is difficult. Change order workflow is not user-friendly.

I have been learning about the Job module and it seems to be a very comprehensive system. I think there is a lot more that a Company could do with the various options within the module and then the analysis via reporting.
Avantages
There are so many features that still need to be integrated into the user experience. The Webinar was extremely useful as I learned and advised the AP department of the function for the Automatic importing of invoices. The Banking and cash management is very straightforward and clearcut. I like how the modules are arranged and how they can be made favorites which makes my job more efficient.
Inconvénients
1) sending PR to multiple bank accounts within a company needs to be posted to Suspense and then journaled into the correct bank account - I'm not sure why that is.2) I wish the "favorites" actually reflected the "original path" of the favorited item (in the menu to the left). Sometimes when teaching someone else, it's hard to remember the original path.

Inconvénients
The support can be 48 hours or more and now the chat support is not as helpful. They want to pass you on to consultant.

I would say is easy to use, it has all in the box, ok for a PM software.
Inconvénients
They need to improve some features, I would like to have a punch list section and somehow tie schedule to the software to track my cost/schedule.

As I mentioned in the title, so good so far.Viewpoint looks like specified for construction project management. My boss and our team members like this program now. Except for the cons that I typed.
Avantages
The best pros in Viewpoint are connection (Sync) and update. All the update is synced right away. So this was so helpful to me to work on a computer or mobile phone.
Inconvénients
Regarding Uploading and downloading the pictures.Our company stop using picture with Spectrum. Because of how hard it is to download and research it.I know you guys make "Tag". But it was not the solution to the work. Also, the Login system makes me so stressful. Every time I need to log in again and again. I hope you can handle this issue.

Visibility of job cost and the detailed reports have helped to simplify the reporting. Tracking contracts and change requests are important to us and are easy to do. Payroll processing time has been reduced and AP is so much better now that the invoices are routed. Automated purchase orders are now possible too.
Avantages
The job costing module is valuable to us for tracking the real time cost of our projects. I like the interactive menus that change depending on what features are being used. We are able to have custom reports designed.
Inconvénients
I have no comments to add here, its a good program.

Overall experience has been great! I enjoy the Help feature as well, whenever i need assistance finding, generating and overall questions - this is a great tool. mostly, all you need to keep track of all your projects are in one pie!

Avantages
Training was so easy, customer support and education are awesome. It is extremely user friendly.
Inconvénients
Intergration wasn't bad at all. We just have such a narrowed field being in road contruction and bridge building. It took work to get them to understand what we needed once there it was a breeze.

Avantages
Spectrum is a fully intergrated software incorporating Job Costing, A/R, A/P, Payroll and Document Imaging. Utilizing the software is relatively easy and the reports are very on point.
Inconvénients
The software constantly times out and closes our sessions. We have contacted support many times and as of today the issue has not been resolved. The only other issue is that certain tasks are a little labor intensive.

Avantages
The thing I like most are the Job reports, they give me all the information I need in one view. My go to is the Job Analysis which gives me a quick view of the job. From there I can look at all aspects of the project.The invoicing is also a favorite, both standard invoices and pay applications are easy to create.
Inconvénients
It would be beneficial to me to be able to create a report where I can select the information I want, such as the Billing summary which I use every month to organize the projects. I don't need all the information the report provides and some that it doesn't, so I create an excel sheet and work from that for the billing period.

Avantages
I've been using this System for 6 months and do not like it at all. In fact, ask anyone in this office and they would agree. It stops working, closes out while you're working. The functionality in Payroll is a joke. Too many issues to list them all. I work in the A/P side too, and there are so many steps it's ridiculous. My advice: RUN and do not look back.
Inconvénients
Too many to list; especially their customer service. Most CSR's are like deers in headlights. Clueless and can't provide answers &/or remedies. One particular instance from March (four months ago) we've never gotten a promised return call. You can RARELY speak to an actual person. It's all electronic "Ticket" submissions or by chat. They can't access your system to be able to troubleshoot, so it's like the blind leading the blind.

Avantages
Easy to learn, but tutorials and 'Help' are of little actual help.
Inconvénients
Inability to customize reports. To do so, you must purchase Crystal Reports - which then won't correctly connect. Availability of Employee Kiosk is touted, but when we looked into it, were told it isn't available for Spectrum. Navigating Customer support is cumbersome.
