It’s an all in one solution to practice management. Also love the document assembly automation.

It could integrate better with QuickBooks to provide easier reconciliation of bank and credit card accounts.

Not easy to create reports for specific issues, i.e. list of new lawsuits filed. Inability to use previous document for a new matter, cannot "switch" matters like before to save new document. Cannot incorporate "workflow" dates into calendar. We use workflow to monitor dates/tasks leading up to trial, these workflow dates do not go into events, so I have to create the workflow, take physical notes and manually put the dates into the events. This is duplicative and unnecessary.

The texting feature is a fantastic option to reach clients who don't use email.

It would be nice if there was a higher limit count on messages sent through the texting portal.

I love the functionality of Smokeball. It's so easy to use. The customer service is so helpful and quick to respond.

I'd like a better integration with Quickbooks.

Document Automation and Auto Time Tracking

Communicate is clunky on mobile.
IOS app is hard to use and doesn’t include auto time tracking.

It is more robust than browser based formats. Many people use it and in general its pretty strong.

Outlook and smokeball dont always go together like peas and carrots. Sometimes syncing can take a bit.

It is very easy to use and they keep updating the product. If we have an issue, they are quick to help us.

Sometimes there are glitches and the calendars don't update or we have to wait for tickets to get responded to.

Complete end to end practice management solution. Fantastic tech support and client account managers. Constantly improving the product for users. Actually does legal template automation (caption and proof of service etc) as opposed to Clio.

Cost of entry seemed very steep on 3-year contract basis. Because Smokeball integrates with all accounting processes except for operating accounts payable there is a great deal of work to get it stood up. Both of these hurdles are surmountable and worthwhile given the excellent product and service.

Smokeball is useful for managing any number of client files. The fact that it keeps contacts across all cases makes it easy to send form letters and make service lists. It also auto-generates captions.

I wish I could download documents from smoke ball directly rather than opening them and clicking save as and saving it. Maybe there's a better way to do it, but I haven't learned it.

I've been waiting for a document management program like Smokeball my entire legal career! I liked many things about Smokeball, but in particular is the ease of use and variety of features.

It takes a bit of time to load when first powering up in the morning.

Smokeball has made work, file organization a breeze. Our firm is able to go paperless as any and all documents can be produced, created, efiled and shared through Smokeball. Webinars are constantly being offered to assist with new features. Constantly teaching customers, learning and growing.

Wishing i can remove fields that are not necessarily needed for our type of defense work.
Example: Matter Type > Matter Details> Do not need "Discovery Details"

Smokeball is very user friendly and easy to use.

duplicate documents saved in matters by different users. Wish there was a way to alert if another use has already save the same document in file.

Ilike the daily digest and task reminders that prompt me upon opening up smokeball.

That not every use can see when a client made a payment

Since I began using Smokeball, I must say that without it, I'm not sure how some Law Firms operate at a high level. Smokeball allows for such a great user experience that benefits the Firm and the clients. Case management software can be clunky and difficult to understand however, Smokeball is user friendly, as a UI that makes sense, and they have a wonderful team of experts ready to help in any way that they can.

I wouldn't say there are many cons about using Smokeball. I guess it would be that you become super dependent on the software. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

I love working with Smokeball. It gives me the opportunity to stay current up to the minute with my files no matter where I am, which is critical in this profession these days.

Maybe if phone use was incorporated some how that would help track billable hours

I have been a Smokeball user for a number of years. I cannot imagine how I survived without it. It offers seamless file management, time tracking, billing, and document automation. It allows me to spend more time actually practicing law instead of all the other minutia involved in running a practice. The customer service is outstanding, they are there for you 24/7 and they are always adding enhancements. I highly recommend it!

There is really nothing that I do not like about Smokeball.

Everything is well put together, user friendly and has everything you need and more
