I use Kindful for our non-profit accounting and donor management (CRM)

Avantages

Kindful is designed to be part of - not the whole of - a CRM/fund accounting strategy. The upside of this is that you are not pigeonholed into one system forever - it is designed to play nicely with other programs/systems.

Once you go through the learning curve, the program is straightforward and easy to use. Customer support is fantastic for questions. I have to manually enter quite a few transactions, and it is much easier to do with Kindful than with Quickbooks. Automatic reports to my board of directors are fantastic. Also, for fund based accounting, this is much simpler to use than quickbooks - I do the math through kindful and my accountant does it through quickbooks - the information is automatically shared through the quickbooks integration. Zapier integration means you can get information in and out of kindful easily. Different price points for different organization sizes is key - a low cost entry point was a big deal for me.

Inconvénients

Not the most intuitive layout, so takes some time getting used to, but once you do it is a very powerful tool. Looks good on a desktop, but not on iphone display.

Integration with quickbooks is my main goal and is not perfect - numbers sync fine but sometimes followup is necessary to make sure the accounts/funds are credited properly.

Would love to see an integration with campaign monitor for emails and a better to-do/task sharing interface (like basecamp).

Overall, I am happy with Kindful and the tools it provides my organization. It easy to use and my staff is not overwhelmed with using it. Their support team is top-notch and always able to help walk me through fixing an issue or answering a question.

Avantages

I value our donors and I want to know how best to care for them and followup. I like the ease of use in creating new transactions and the automated reports. I like the reporting capabilities and ease of getting the data I need to manage our organization. I like that my staff finds it easy to use.

Inconvénients

Entering a single new donor from a check takes additional steps to create the donor, then create the transaction. There is a batch tool that makes this process easier if entering multiple donations. There are some issues with reporting that make it difficult to pull everything I need. Most of these are one-off issues, but still important. I have not found the peer-to-peer tool easy enough to use where I feel confident that my donors would use it. I had to create a pdf to give to them to walk them through all the steps. I wish it had email and text message marketing built-in.

The team is kind (haha) but usually not helpful. Several times we have asked for help and ended up with suggestions that only help Americans - most Kindful employees are not aware how the program works for Canadians and are not prepared to answer our questions. Rather, they need us to tell them how their program works in Canada.

When it is a global problem we encounter, we receive help on how to work around the problem rather than address it directly. Which would not be a problem in the short term, but because there does not seem to be any public-facing suggestions board or update tracker, there is no way of knowing if Kindful is actually making improvements to its program. My biggest disappointment with the Kindful team is not their program, but it seems to us in our daily interactions with the team and program that they have not the capacity or dedication to make the simple updates that would make this program incredible. I hope to see more acknowledgement of our issues and some sort of update that they are working to make Kindful better.

Avantages

Attractive online giving page, easy statistics about donor giving on dashboard, acknowledgements tool is useful, tasks assigned to team members, recent transactions bar at side is handy to track donations as they come in, campaign sorting is handy, can compare campaign success year over year.

Inconvénients

There are so many small oversights that make daily use of the program frustrating. Some examples:

There is no automatic receipting for Canadian users, despite many other CRMs offering this in Canada. There is no way to offer a one-off receipt for someone, as the bulk receipting tool is a one-click button that receipts EVERYONE from the last year and will void any receipt made previously in the giving year.

The fiscal report tool is completely useless - it generates information for the month to date, meaning if you want to see the entire month's progress, you have to wait until midnight of the last day of the month (who's going to do that?). There is no way to generate the report for previous months. The only possible solution to this tool - automation - does not work. You can schedule the report to come to your inbox, but it's only able to schedule reports for the first day of the month, meaning you'll get a report with ONE DAY of data. There is no way to change this.

There are many ways to filter your audience or activities, but there are also many fields missing, and finding the parameters you need requires filtering through a long list of suggestions that are not organized by any category. For example, I wanted to see how many of our audience members who received our last Mailchimp email ended up making a donation the next way. But even though each contact will have the MailChimp interaction on their personal activities record, it is not searchable.

Overall, Kindful's customer service and their willingness to teach you how to use any tool could outweigh any negative. It's extremely user-friendly and you can tell was created with the user in mind.

Avantages

I like most that I can see a very clear snapshot of a donor's activity on their profile. Donations, if they recently opened a mailing, if they have been acknowledged etc.

Inconvénients

For fundraising, I feel that there could be a better way to host a fundraiser for an event through Kindful.

Our overall experience has been good. Have worked out most of the kinks over the last year and have been able to train other staffers to use it with ease. Thankful for the support and quick answers to our questions and resolutions (though not always solutions) to our challenges.

Avantages

Easy to use. Has most of what we need without being overwhelming or requiring our own IT/programming team. Friendly and helpful support.

Inconvénients

Not as customizable as some CRMs are, so while Kindful Is taking care of most of our needs, we have had to hobble a few things together with it to make it serve all of our needs.

The integration with Classy, QuickBooks, and MailChimp has been life-changing and has definitely increased productivity. We paid for the additional support feature and that has been super helpful; allowing us time to gather questions and then meet every two weeks with our customer lead to discuss and troubleshoot.

Avantages

The all-in-one feature and how user-friendly the software is. Did I mention the integration was simple and overnight?

Inconvénients

The MailChimp tagging and integration is something to get used to but the support has been helpful.

The onboarding was a nightmare, the customer salespeople didn't know the system thus over-promising, unable to meet completion deadlines and actually had us pick a web template that is not even one they offer!! Customer service is amazing! Really great value for the cost. It's intuitive to navigate, not overly cluttered. The financial reports are SO customizable. The tax-document send-out is so simple and fast, and they have options to update addresses (like when people move) from the post office database. So many other integrations make this a platform easily customizable to different nonprofits' needs.

Avantages

Customer service and set-up was a breeze! So helpful being able to contact real people for custom solutions. Importing records from other systems is one of the easiest I've seen.

Inconvénients

It's not quite as robust on the CRM side as some of the other options out there- however even with that, they have easy integrations with most of those major programs!

Our donor retention has increased, our organization and capacity for communication has more than double. We love Kindful!

Avantages

When we decided to implement Kindful as our donor management and CRM software, we didn't realize the gift that we were giving ourselves as an organization. Kindful has allowed us to grow and scale in a way that wasn't possible before implementation. It has given us insight and helped us with donor retention. It has reduced our workload and made growth possible.

Inconvénients

It's such a powerful tool that it can be difficult to learn sometimes; however, compared to other tools out there, it's a beautiful interface with a much shorter learning curve.

To date, it has been a positive experience from data entry to reporting. I hope, with the recent hire of an administrative manager, that we will make better use of the software.

Avantages

After one year of using another product, I requested that my team member investigate other options. After reviewing several options, Kindful seemed to match the needs we had and addressed the paths that we hoped to go. We are still in the learning curve of the many features, but the software has been very helpful in achieving what we need.

Inconvénients

I have not had too many negative experiences with the software. I wish there was a way to print the dashboard for overview reports for my board. If there is a way I would like to learn it.

Avantages

The ease of connecting with Quickbooks has made Kindful a win for me! Although I have not used all parts of the Kindful program, the things that I have used are so great for our organization! The charts are helpful for our [SENSITIVE CONTENT] to present at board meetings. Putting together a strategic plan was less stressful with the ease of reporting and charts. Just like anything else, you need to take time to "play" with the various parts...I haven't had the time to do it all!!!

Still wondering the same thing...haven't sent out group emails yet, but will be attempting that soon!

If you are looking for donor software that is user friendly, a good price, and meets your needs, then I highly suggest you give Kindful a look.

Avantages

I didn't know much about donor software when I started so I began researching multiple options. As a nonprofit, I was looking for something that would meet my needs without breaking the bank. What I liked about Kindful was that it offered most of the same features as other software programs at a great price. For options that are not included, Kindful partners with other agencies so you actually get everything you need. All the agencies that Kindful partners with, information can sync directly to Kindful which is very convenient. There is also a lot of support. You can call and they actually answer the phone and there are also many scripts and videos to walk you through various things. Kindful is always looking for ways to improve. They actually listen when we respond and they have already made many improvements.

Inconvénients

I was skeptical about Kindful not including every possible feature within it's software. However, other software that does is double or triple the cost if not more. You also may be paying for things you don't need so I actually like this option a lot more than I thought I would. So far, Kindful meets all of my needs.

We got Kindful in July 2017 to replace Salsa, which we found overpriced and clunky. We chose Kindful because, combined with Mailchimp and Eventbrite, it met our needs very well, and enabled us to reduce the cost of our development/communications/event toolkit by over 50% overnight, while substantially improving the quality of our tools. We found the Kindful team very easy to work with, always helpful and responsive. We also appreciate that Kindful keeps getting better and more sophisticated.

Avantages

Kindful is very easy to learn to use, and it offers all the features that fundraisers at most small to mid-size nonprofits will want, without needless complexity and at a very reasonable price tag. It also integrates very well with best-in-class tools like Mailchimp and Eventbrite, enabling you to build a suite of tools tailored to your organization's specific needs. Kindful's dashboard is very good, and their reporting features are solid. Help materials are great. We also really appreciate the very responsive and very friendly staff, always there to help!

Inconvénients

Some aspects of Kindful aren't super intuitive, and if you don't use them frequently, you may spend some time confused and looking around. That said, the help materials will usually solve these problems quickly.

Handling on line payments at low cost is a huge benefit. Having a secure platform that isn't PayPal that used to fail one in six transactions is a huge improvement. The staff, when available, are knowledgeable and helpful.

Avantages

The depth of information kept by system is incredible. It has insight into participants propensity to give.

Inconvénients

There is almost too much information potential in the database. Pulling reports requires careful logic inquiries, difficult to get it right.

Integration with MailChimp is excellent. Back-end CRM donor management is really good and comprehensive. Inclusion of Wealth Mgmt. is a nice extra.

Inconvénients

On my most recent implementation had trouble with the QuickBooks integration. A lot of information that I didn't want got imported. Kindful needs to improve this integration so that selective sync is possible.

Donation pages are not bad but more customization (e.g. ability to include impact statements) is needed. Offering that plus real pop-up donation pages would make it an even better product.

Kindful has improved the way we do most of our donor management at the small non-profit that I work for. Before Kindful we were just using PayPal links for our donors to give and tracking everything on spreadsheets that more often than not were incorrect. Kindful has revolutionized the way we operate and has helped us grow more and more each year.

Avantages

So many things! I love the ease of use, the customer service, the rapid responses when coming across and issue, all the iterations. So much to love about Kindful!

Inconvénients

There are only a handful of tweaks I would make and they are all pretty specific to our non-profit so it may not even effect others. I dislike that there isn't an easy option for creating recurring sponsorships. There could also be some more flexibility with the peer-to-peer fundraising pages and forms design-wise.

Kindful is a wonderful software, with a really strong customer service team. I have used a number of platforms over the years and I find Kindful to be my favorite. I have never used a "perfect" CRM and we know that there isn’t such a thing, so if you can't have perfect its really nice to have good, with great customer service.

Avantages

- It's very user-friendly
- It works with most of the other software we use (Mailchimp, Eventbrite, Quickbooks, Zapier...)
- Kindful has the very best customer service

Inconvénients

- It's "dashboard" doesn't report accurately, you have to create custom reports to get some of the actual data they advertise. The most frustrating dashboard number they display that isn't accurate is there "Retention Rate" number. Rather than showing donor retention, it shows activity retention, meaning that if someone came to a free event one time and doesn't end up giving a donation within a year it shows it as a drop in your retention.
- The duplicate finder isn't very strong, and takes a lot of manual work. We have to call kindful every few months to ask them to reset the duplicate finder so that it will work again.
- The "Fundraising" tools aren't very robust.

The data is very limited. Mostly canned information. Everytime I tried to get help the answer was the same. "We will address that issue in the future."

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. It appears that you decided to cancel your subscription in February of last year - Since then we've continue to make improvements to our product based on feedback from users just like you. I also noticed that our support team worked with you on many requests you had that were unique to your organization.

I needed a system that connected all my information for our nonprofit with donations, to purchasing our products, receipts, acknowledgements, to emails etc. It has literally helped us grow and the customer service team has been so very helpful and answers every one of my questions!

Avantages

This software has literally saved me so much time and kept me close to every donation, registration and connection to our nonprofit. And customer service is the best.

Inconvénients

Some partner apps that connect to Kindful can create unwanted duplicates and create some confusion come to reports and end of the year things. These can make for many extra hours of cleanup if you don't stay on top of things.

Overall, we have enjoyed our experience with Kindful. Their team is very responsive, and has ensured we know our options, our integration features are set up correctly, and that we're getting the best cost per our needs.

Avantages

Our organization really enjoy the dashboard feature allowing us to quickly and seamlessly see data on our donor (champions!), our goals, and recurring gifts. We also enjoy the report features and all the options we have to make custom reports. Plus, the acknowledgement letter tool has saved us so much time while increasing our accountability.

Inconvénients

Some of the Activities filters are hard to navigate, or create, to get the reports we need. However, the 'Help' section of the software usually has a solution or the next best option for the report we were trying to generate.

Kindful is a great option for our growing non-profit. Some of the larger CRMs we looked at had more functionality and customization options but with that came a much higher price tag as well as a decrease in user-friendliness. We needed something that was intuitive and user-friendly for many different types of people, and Kindful fit the bill. Their customer service is top notch and they put an emphasis and helping non-profits learn and grow.

Avantages

The big number one for me is ease of reporting. Reporting (as well as the rest of Kindful) is very intuitive and user friendly. We love this because that means it's not just one expert in our office who can pull reports, any one who needs to can pull the information they need quickly and efficiently.

Inconvénients

I don't like that campaigns can only be tied to one fund. We often have to create multiple campaign titles for one appeal or campaign to accommodate donors who restrict their giving.

Kindful has provided a nice platform for my organization to receive funds, organize information, and effectively communicate. They are constantly updating and improving their platform, offering more options and tools for their customers. I have recommended Kindful to several people, and they all love the platform as well!

Avantages

I love the simplicity of the platform. It is very easy to navigate, and makes connecting with customers very efficient.

Inconvénients

Some of the reports and tools within the systems are not the most visually appealing and easy to read.

Avantages

We've loved using Kindful because it has great reporting features, easy to set up campaigns, and great integrations with email services.

Inconvénients

The price has gone up since we first started using, but as the company grows and improves, this is to be expected. There are certain features that have a larger learning curve, but you can always reach out to customer service to find a solution.
